What We Did

Communicating this upbeat vibe to potential customers who’d never experienced the restaurant before was proving challenging. So they entered The Place Beyond for a unique, immersive website that celebrates everything that makes Lokma a great place to eat (and a great night out).
Lokma had a dated and plain website that was completely at odds with the vibrant flavours and nightlife on offer. The client wanted to shout about their shisha bar, their role as a party venue – and of course, their incredible food.

Standout Restaurant Marketing.

If you’ve never had proper Turkish food before, you don’t know what you’re missing. This is far from the risky kebab at 2am most of us have encountered before; and Lokma wants you to know it.
They asked us to create something out of left field; a website with a look and feel that matched their creative menu, chilled party atmosphere and young audience. So we got to it.

Goodbye Stock Photos. Hello Moving Images.

There was only one way to bring Lokma’s atmosphere to life on the web; we had to capture it. We sent our video and photo team out on-location, to film the restaurant on a typical day, and into the night.
We went armed with a shot list, a clear plan and a vision for the final cut; using high-speed videography, cinematic filters and dramatic angles to capture the atmosphere on the ground – the way their customers feel it.
The result was a visual look and feel closely aligned with the true experience Lokma offers. Next, we paired this with a series of illustrations that would deepen the immersive web experience – and celebrate the traditions of Turkish culture.

A Website Like No Other.

With our photography, video and illustration set, it was time to build a website that could contain it all. But given that our artistic approach to design (and use of video) is resource heavy, you'd think that delivering a lightweight web build would be beyond reach.
Think again. We solved the old problems of content distribution and laggy loading long ago – with a server-side rendering solution. Lokma’s website uses next-gen web technologies for a silky smooth, responsive design that adapts to any device, on any network.
We integrated their booking system, thanks to the flexibility of Sanity CMS – and allowed them to create and upload their menus as PDFs; giving them the simplicity they needed for rapid menu deployment with no technical background needed.

Immersion Through Illustration.

Our signature illustrative style was one of the key reasons Lokma chose Beyond – they loved how the tactile, textured look jumped out at them. So, we created a series of illustrations and animations that expressed the joy and vibrancy of Turkish food; best eaten at night.
Our colour palette ranged from electric neons to Earthy hues, to show the future and the past at the same time; this was a nod to Lokma’s traditional roots and modern styling. The effect was profound and beautiful. A true elevation for the brand, and a massive win for their perception.
