What We Did

Zouk is an oasis in the heart of Manchester – a culinary highlight of traditional Indian and Pakistani food, with a modern twist. Zouk specialises in memorable moments, meant to be shared. It’s a dining experience that blends cultures and cuisines; an approach we apply in our own work (just with code and imagery instead of food).

They came to us looking for a clear creative direction and solid creative execution. They needed a digital platform that they could grow with shopping functionality – and a strategy for ongoing success.

We delivered all of this in a full-service solution, and proudly continue to support this brave new brand today.

A Look and Feel Rooted in Shared Cultures.

The ideas for Zouk’s identity and imagery weren’t just born of necessity; but when they found us, their digital presence and visual identity were in pretty bad shape. Although we needed to move quickly to address this, we didn’t skimp on the attention to detail – and we worked closely with Marketing Director, Helen McCarthy, to bring out the story and history behind Zouk. We developed a visual style that echoes with the shared Indian and Pakistani heritage of the food on offer, colliding with modern dining experiences.

It’s an explosion of colour and vibrancy. Our art directed photography and videography in their restaurant captured this beautifully, and has given the website a hero video and visual assets that’ll last for a lifetime. With carefully crafted illustrations and subtle animations, Zouk’s look and feel is completely transformed; elevated to a new level.

Storytelling and Launch PR.

Part of developing the brand experience included the story and identity for their tiffin lunch deliveries – a traditional box meal, filled with at least 3 layers of culinary delights. Tiffin boxes are a fundamental part of Mumbai’s culture, and Zouk wanted to share that experience with Manchester.

We helped bring this element into the digital realm, with a PR stunt to kick it off when the new brand identity launched. The one and only Bez (of Happy Mondays fame) took to the streets of Manchester on our custom, Zouk-branded tuk tuk – the Tiffin Trike – delivering delicious tiffin boxes to the city in a headline-grabbing spectacle.

E-commerce Integration.

Zouk’s strategy for supplemental revenue included an online shop for bespoke gifts, experiences and ingredients. We designed the packaging for their products – but also used our full stack of developer tools and experience to create an online shop that integrates with the website perfectly.

Combined with a local and ecommerce SEO strategy, we’ve gone beyond expectations for Zouk, who’ve been super happy with everything we have done to date.

Zouk is becoming known as a cultural highlight of Manchester – and our kickoff campaign helped them launch their new look and website to a wider audience. The work on the tiffins keeps them branching out into the community every day, too, making them a visible and active part of the city.

But their web and online presence has been truly transformational. We’re delighted to have been part of their journey, and are excited for a long future working together.
